The DNA strives to improve the business and cultural strength of Downtown Northampton through investments in programming, beautification, and advocacy.
What does the DNA do?
Maintenance and Beautification: The DNA works with local companies to design, plant and maintain the hanging baskets and island planters that decorate downtown during the spring and summer months. In the winter, the DNA works with a local lighting company to design and hang holiday lights throughout the downtown community. Downtown maintenance is provided by a dedicated City of Northampton employed individual.
Events and Marketing: The DNA promotes and produces signature downtown events with the retail and restaurant community. These events include the Summer Block Party, Holiday Stroll, Sidewalk Sales, monthly Arts Night Out (including the Ice Art Festival and Chalk Art Festival), and Downtown Trick-or-Treat. The DNA works to promote and market Downtown Northampton using social media platforms, and additional advertising as funding allows.
Advocacy: The DNA brings together key partners to move forward with initiatives that are beneficial and healthy for our Downtown. We also work to improve communication between the various City Departments and the downtown business community, particularly on issues that impact the downtown district.
