IMMER MOWRY COOK Artist’s Statement
I grew up in and currently live in Easthampton, MA. An interest in modern and contact improvisational dance led me to pursue the study of dance in college. While there I found my way to ceramics and have been committed to the medium ever since. I have been creating work out of a shared community studio in Florence for the past few years. I use traditional hand-building techniques and occasional wheel thrown elements to create my sculptures. My work has generally always made reference to vessel forms, using the architecture of the vessel( foot, body, handle, spout), as a vehicle for self expression. One thread in my current body of work represents a departure from that focus. In this series I tried to develop a personal iconography which led me to a series of portraits and the incorporation of a pedestal element into my compositions.

SUSAN VALENTINE Artist’s Statement
I moved to Leverett from Boston in 1992. It was here that my heart found a home and my artistic nature began to find nurturance . Currently my focus is portraiture. Portraits of vegetables and fruits, that is. We all know their beauty. I’m just here to show you my personal relationship with that beauty. Does cooking take longer that way? Yes. Yes, it does.

Open during ANO until 6 pm on Friday, March 11th. On view March 2nd through 30th. No reception is being held.

The name of the exhibit comes is inspired by Graffiti as one of the four elements of Hip Hop, along with MCing (or rapping), B-boying (break dancing), and DJing.

Gravity + Other Thoughts by Mo Willems
R. Michelson Galleries, 132 Main Street

Picture
“2021 was an odd year, numerically and culturally. As they have for the past few years, making abstraction has been a solace. Color, shape, and form can change, but their fundamentals are reassuringly eternal. Showing the Gravity works to a friend, I was told, ‘You’re trying to keep a lot of balls in the air.’ Aren’t we all?” – Mo Willems

All of Mo’s proceeds from this exhibit will be donated to The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts.

Exhibit open during ANO from 5-8pm on Friday, March 11th.

KATE CHILDS Artist Statement
I primarily paint with oils, although I also use acrylic and mixed media. I am self-taught. I have studied graphics, printmaking, watercolor, drawing and painting at various workshops at the Decordova Museum of Art School in the 90’s and continued my journey into the present. I have been painting in oils since 2001. I studied the concepts and techniques of oil painting at Greenfield Community College with Budge Hyde for two years.  This gorgeous area in which we live inspires me to get started! Mainly the colors and textures of the natural world, river, marshes and oceans. Sometimes I paint from a picture I have taken, and other times the painting comes directly from imagination. I paint in my studio at One Cottage Street, Easthampton, where I have been located for many years. I hope that my paintings to give others the feeling of expansiveness, of relaxation and contemplation.

Opening Reception during ANO from 5-7pm on Friday, March 11th. On view March 1st through 31st.
