LEN SEEVE: Photographs of Vietnam

I’ve travelled to Vietnam a number of times over the years and each time I’ve been enthralled by its sensual impact – the colors, textures and smells. From the rice terraces in the mountainous north to the street food of Hanoi, from the fishing villages on the coast to the water buffalo markets in the countryside, the journey of the senses can sometimes seem overwhelming.

KAREN GARDNER: Birds and Nature Photography

Though my eye is always searching out birds to photograph, I also love to photograph landscapes, seascapes, and other critters. Birds, though, are my greatest interest and I try to capture the detail of their intricate patterns, their colors and especially the personality of each bird I’m lucky enough to encounter.

The Bearded Lady Project: Challenging the Face of Science
Northampton Center for the Arts at 33 Hawley St
On view November/December

Picture
Dr. ELLEN D. CURRANO, LEXI JAMIESON MARSH, KELSEY VANCE: The Bearded Lady Project

The Bearded Lady Project confronts public stereotypes of scientists by celebrating inspirational, adventurous women who have dedicated their lives to paleontology, searching for clues about past life on Earth. These images harken back to the stylized photographs of male paleontologists in historical texts. The beard, a potent symbol of masculinity, is added to the women's portraits to highlight the inequities and prejudices that persist in the sciences. The Bearded Lady Project seeks to educate the public and inspire the same recognition and respect for women in the sciences that their male colleagues typically receive. The Project has been brought to the Valley by Northampton Open Media.
